Em-Terra™
The Em-Terra™ productline is a collection of films that are oxo or bio-degradable.
Oxo-degradable films:
Oxo degradable films are films that are treated with chemical additives that speed up the process of degradation tremendously and cost just a fraction more than regular films.
First Stage:
Oxo-biodegradation is a two stage process in which a polymer is firstly converted by chemical reaction with oxygen to produce lower molecular weight chains. These shorter chains no longer behave as plastics and therefore the product micro-fragments, or “falls apart”.
Second Stage:
The secondary stage of the oxo-biodegradation process is normally described as “biodegradation” or “mineralization”. The micro-fragments, now chemically different are available for biodegradation due to their lower molecular weight and greater degree of wet-ability, and are converted into carbon-dioxide, water and biomass, by micro-organisms.

Bio-degradable films:
PLA Film
Stands for Polylactic acid or polylactide and is a biodegradable, thermoplastic, aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch, or other recourses which contains dextrose.
After fermentation of dextrose lactic acid is obtained which can be polymerized further towards poly lactic acid. PLA can biodegrade (biogas or compose) be physically and chemically recycled, if PLA is incinerated green energy is obtained. PLA film is provided by NatureWorks®
